Straight Street Event Services respects your privacy. This page explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what we do to keep it safe. It is written in plain language on purpose.
What we collect
When you fill in our quote form, we collect the information you give us: your name, your email address, the type of event, the date if you know it, and anything you write in the message box.
When you browse the site, we collect basic, non-identifying information through Google Analytics: which pages you visited, roughly where in the world you are, what kind of device and browser you used, and how you arrived. This is gathered using cookies, which are small files stored by your browser. We also use Google Fonts to display the site’s type, which means Google receives your IP address when a page loads.
That is the whole list. We do not collect payment information through this website, and we do not ask for anything we do not need.
Why we collect it
Form information is used to answer your enquiry and prepare a quote. Nothing more. We will not add you to a mailing list because you asked for a quote.
Analytics information is used to understand which pages are useful and which are not, so we can improve the site. We look at it in totals, not individually.
Who else sees it
We do not sell your information, and we do not trade or rent it to anyone.
A small number of service providers handle it on our behalf because the site could not run otherwise:
- Google, for analytics and fonts. Google stores this data on servers outside Canada, including in the United States, where it is subject to the laws of those countries.
- Our website host and the company that maintains the site, who can access the server where form submissions arrive.
- Our email provider, which carries the message when your enquiry reaches us.
Beyond that, we release information only if we are legally required to.
Cookies, and how to turn them off
Cookies are set by Google Analytics when you visit. You can stop them in three ways, all of which are in your hands rather than ours:
- Change the cookie settings in your browser, or browse in a private window.
- Install Google’s own Analytics opt-out add-on, which stops Google Analytics on every site you visit.
- Turn on the “Do Not Track” setting in your browser.
The site works normally with cookies switched off. Nothing on it requires them.
How long we keep it
Enquiries are kept for as long as we are working with you, and afterwards as part of our business records. If you would rather we did not keep yours, tell us and we will remove it, unless we are required to keep it for tax or legal reasons. Google Analytics data expires on Google’s own schedule, currently after fourteen months.
Seeing, correcting or removing your information
You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to us using the details below and we will respond within thirty days. There is no charge.
Email from us
We only send marketing email to people who have asked for it. Every message we send identifies who it is from and includes a one-click unsubscribe. If you unsubscribe, you stop hearing from us, and that does not affect any work we are doing together.
Keeping it safe
We use secure, encrypted connections across the whole site, limit access to the people who need it, and keep our systems up to date. No website can promise perfect security, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we can say is that we treat your information the way we would want ours treated, and if something ever went wrong we would tell you.
Which laws apply
As a private business in Ontario, we follow the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) for personal information, and Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) for commercial email.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and change the date at the bottom. If the change is significant, we will say so plainly rather than hoping you do not notice.
